What's in a Name?

by B. Barrick, resident

Wesleyan.... Would this home by any other name be quite the same?

Wesley, the disciplined scholar, left people cold until his heart was strangely warmed. Then he lit a fire that warmed the English masses and lightened the American frontier. The embers of that fire still warm at atmosphere at Estrella Crossing.

With grace and evident good will, the staff helps cushion the indignities of growing old. Their warm courtesy seems to come from a deeper place than professional filling of roles.

From the richness of their experiences, the residents inform, intrigue, entertain and inspire each other. Through the myriad exchanges of daily life, they care for each other, assuaging loneliness and isolation and encouraging inclusion and community. In sickness and even in death, they model courage, faith, and hope for the better life to come!

At present The Wesleyan may not be the perfect retirement community, but board, staff and residents aspire in the spirit of Wesley, to go on to perfection. There is reason to hope Wesley's namesake at Estrella Crossing is "doing him proud."

Thank you again and also for your daily work to create an environment where we may age - not only with grace and peace- but also with purpose and opportunities for service.

After enjoying our lunch today, I just wanted to let you know I have not seen my mom this happy in months. It's only been two days at her new place to call home and she seems to be very happy. I just can't thank you enough for all you've done.

We just want you to know how much we appreciate you and those who have worked hard to make our move such a happy one. We will miss our home, but you have certainly turned those nostalgic emotions into excited ones. We feel so blessed.
